Adler Meets Seniors For Teleconference

By Tom Mongelli

Fresh from Monday's Shore Economic Summit at Ocean County College, Representative John Adler talks money and health with retirees in a telephone town hall. AARP brings the third-district Democrat to Princeton to speak with members, in person as well as by phone.

The freshman Congressman is in the middle of an exhaustive tour of his district, including stops in Tuckerton, Toms River, Manahawkin, and a cluster of Burlington County towns in the past two weeks.

Adler says he aims to change the perception that the current generation is neglecting the country that today's elders helped to build. And he wants their suggestions about how to do it.

"I take them with me every day in Washington," says Adler, "to figure out what we should do to fix our broken health-care system, to make sure that Medicare works, to make sure we've got small businesses growing, and hiring new people."

Adler is also disclosing details about his federal reworking of a senior-protection bill he pioneered in the Garden State. The Predatory-Annuity Sales Prevention Act enabled New Jersey to become the first state in America shielding seniors from investment scammers. Adler also reveals details about the $250 federal checks that all seniors and disabled veterans can expect in the mail in May.
